The Good Doctor season 3 has delivered the biggest episode for Dr. Shaun Murphy, wherein he finally confessed his feelings to Lea. But after his confession, Lea's response is not what Shaun had hoped it would be. It looks like this moment could change their lives in the future and their friendship might get affected as well.

In the previous episode of The Good Doctor season 3, Shaun admitted he loved his ex-girlfriend, Carly. However, the person he really wants to be with is Lea. This could be a perfect moment for the two, but Shaun's confession of love has an unexpected outcome. Although Lea said she loves him too, she also admitted that she's selfish and messy and that Shaun needs things a certain way.

That's when he asked a heartbreaking and difficult question: if it had to do with his autism. Lea was silent and she couldn't give him an answer. To overcome her emotions, she decided to walk out of the apartment without saying a word. A single tear then dropped on Shaun's eye. This is a painful moment for him as he gathers all his courage, only to be rejected once again.

In an interview with TVLine, Paige Spara, who plays Lea, discussed her character's reaction to Shaun's confession. She said Lea does love Shaun and she does have a bond with him. She considers him as his person, but Spara questions whether Lea is also the person for him. The actress explained her character can't be selfish at that moment and just can't say "I love you. Let's give this a shot."

Many outside factors affected Lea's decision to walk away. Spara said her character felt overwhelmed and a bit confused, that's why she's silent when Shaun confessed his feelings to her. But despite that, there's still hope for these two, though it may not come immediately. What's more is that they also share a deep emotional intimacy.

Right now, Lea may not want to be messy anymore and she's trying to figure out what she wants from her life. Although it's heartbreaking, she might be right not to become Shaun's girlfriend for now since she knows she wouldn't be able to handle it. But before The Good Doctor season 3 ends, their relationship will possibly be explored more and they may end up in the right place one day.

The Good Doctor season 3 new episodes arrive every Monday on ABC.
