On April 13, the 142nd White House Easter Egg Roll is set to happen. However, Melania Trump recently announced that the event has been now cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States.

The announcement was made just a few days after the US President, Donald Trump declared a "national emergency." It was said that the cancellation of the event is just suitable according to the guidelines given by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to Town & Country magazine, pushing through with the tradition will violate the "social distancing" recommendations outlined by the CDC. As explained, social distancing should be observed by everyone, which means "mass gatherings" must be avoided. Also, the institution, reportedly, noted that when practicing the distancing, the distance from others should be maintained at approximately 6 feet or 2 meters away.

Melania Trump's decision to cancel the event just makes sense considering that the annual celebration always includes a lot of activities and engagements throughout the day. Despite the sensible action, the First Lady, reportedly, shared her apologies and "regrets" in cancelling the Easter Egg Roll.

She also went on to explain that "difficult decisions" must be made in "short-term" to ensure the safety and health of everyone in the country for the "long-term." The "health and safety" of every American is the "first priority," especially today, the First Lady added.

In a similar scoop released by Refinery29, it was said that the annual White House Easter Egg Roll has remained a "highlight" for Melania Trump. Aside from the egg hunts and "egg-rolling games," the event also features other fun activities including a special visit from the Easter Bunny, book readings, musical performances, and other games mainly for children aged 13 and below.

During the 141st Easter Egg Roll, Melania Trump was revealed to read The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin for the book reading activity with the kids. As shared in the report, the First Lady read the story on the South Lawn of the White House before they all proceeded with the games and activities.

As for the COVID-19 case in the United States, the number of infected individuals has since soared high and now reached over 140,256. Sadly, the same is also true for the number of deaths as the figures spiked to 2,457.

With this trend at hand, the country has already surpassed China and Italy's outbreak cases. The United States is also facing a huge risk of becoming the next epicenter of the virus as per claims.
