Microsoft's Xbox Series X is better than Sony's PS5, according to Valve President and Founder Gabe Newell. The next-gen console war is the hotly debated subject in the gaming industry, especially now that the imminent release of the consoles is fast approaching. Technically, PC gamers have nothing to do with the console war, but that did not stop Newell from sharing his preference between the upcoming gaming consoles.

Newell Prefers Xbox Series X Over PS5

Newell's statement came from a recent interview with The Project, a television program in New Zealand. During the interview, the Valve President was asked which of the two next-gen gaming consoles he believed is the best. Newell answered Xbox.

Newell is one of the minds behind the Steam PC gaming platform and "Half-Life" and is considered as one of the great minds in the gaming industry. Fans were actually expecting that the Valve founder would further elaborate on his preferred gaming console. Unfortunately, Newell simply answered that he believes Xbox is the best because 'It is.'

According to Newell, he has no stake in the console race. He added that most of the development he is involved with concerns personal computers. However, he emphasized that between the two forthcoming next-gen consoles, he would go for the Xbox. The Valve executive is currently in New Zealand after deciding to stay a bit longer when the novelcoronavirus hit the world last March. Newell is setting up a free concert with live music and VR stands as gratitude to the country.

Other Details

While it is true that Valve has nothing to do with the current console war, it still has a relationship with Microsoft and Sony. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft has rolled out a lot of console exclusives on Newell's Steam. The Japanese giant Sony is now following Microsoft's move towards Steam, although it is a slow process.

In a report, PC Gamer said that in terms of games and machine, Xbox Series X is a little more adjacent to PC. It makes sense that Newell would favor Microsoft's console over its rival, the site added. During the interview, the Valve executive also talked about virtual reality, which he seemed more interested, considering that Valve released the VR title "Half-Life: Alyx" in the early part of the year.

Sony and Microsoft have announced earlier that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are set to arrive sometime in the Holiday of 2020. Both companies are anticipated to hold another event in August to showcase the games coming to the consoles as well as announce some more news.
