Remote workers are at risk of unique security challenges that employers must take note of. It is critical that companies consider individual requirements of their work-from-home employees and provide a secure and fast Wi-Fi connection, ensuring workers feel motivated and engaged.

Software Considerations

Employees will need stable software to work from home productively. Considering there are so many different types of software for remote work, workers could get easily lost in the sea of them.

That being said, below are some types of software remote workers will need to stay productive.

Remote Desktop Software: This type of software allows users to connect to a computer in a remote location for business purposes. Remote access also allows for easy troubleshooting.

Video Conferencing Software: Sometimes, messages are best understood when they are spoken verbally. It's easy to get lost in the sea of chats, too. But with video conferencing, it makes employees feel they are in the same room as their employers and co-workers, too, encouraging the spirit of good collaboration.

Group Chat Apps: While verbal communication is good, communication via chat is just convenient, you know? It's easy to do too. You simply have to type in a message and press send, which is particularly useful if you don't have time to wait for the other person on the line to answer.

Screen Recording Software: You'll never know when the need for screen recordings may arise, so it's best to get one in advance. Choose an application that's a no-brainer to use and offer extra features to boot.

Remote workers need to have access to a specific type of software that will make their tasks easy to work on. If you're an employer, make sure to audit the software and decide how to provide your WFH employees with easy access.

Be Wary of Personal Gadgets

Working from home also means that employees are free to use their personal devices anytime. For employers, this can be risky.

According to experts, using work-related tasks on personal gadgets pose the highest cybersecurity risk. And this risk can increase all the more when employers don't establish policies on the use of personal devices for work.

Employers must also find a way to recover data for workers no longer working with them. For example, if one remote worker gets fired or resigns, what then happens to all those work-related files they have access to?

The answer to this lies within cloud-based storage. And you'll need this comes in handy for data recovery too, so best be getting one right now.
