Showtime confirmed that Dexter revival is happening and it will be in a form of a limited series. The crime-mystery series became one of the best television shows, but the ending was considered to be "controversial." Now that the show is returning, long-time fans are hoping for a better conclusion.

Dexter revival will consist of 10 episodes and set to arrive at some point in 2021. Michael C. Hall will reprise his titular, Dexter Morgan. The original showrunner, Clyde Phillips, is also coming back, who departed from the series after the fourth season.

Phillips made it clear the new series won't undo the events in the season 8 finale. Instead, it will give a new ending for the titular character's story. Now, recent reports seemingly hinted at what could be the plot of the next chapter.

Marcos Saga is set to executive produce and direct six of the 10 episodes of the limited series. He's been a frequent collaborator of Phillips and directed nine episodes already. Saga's other credits include The Following, Blindspot, Veronica Mars, and True Bloods.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Dexter revival will take place 10 years after the series finale. The story picks up with the titular character who went missing during Hurricane Laura and then started a new life in Oregon.

He is now "living under an assumed name" and in a "world away from Miami." This tease could reference that the character is still living in Oregon or moved to some other remote area of America. There's also a chance he reunited with Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) and son Harrison in Argentina.

The two fled to Argentina in the series finale; so, Dexter may have reunited with them during the last 10 years. While the show cannot erase the events that transpired in the ending, Dexter Revival could bring a "second finale" to satisfy fans.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's podcast TV's Top 5, Phillips said that they are starting from scratch. The showrunner confirmed that the new chapter has "no resemblance" to the original series' ending, which is a great opportunity to write a second finale.

Phillips noted that the revival allows them to make things right after the controversial finale. He added that they won't be undoing anything that has already happened. Ten years have passed, and the new chapter will reflect on that time passage.

Dexter revival will begin production next year and slated for a fall 2021 premiere.
