If you tuned in to the final episode of The Mandalorian Season 2, there's a good chance you were blown away by the post-credits scene that showed Boba Fett and Fennec Shand returning to Tatooine for some unfinished business.

The sequence immediately had fans wondering if this could be the premise of the show's third season or a completely new series. Luckily, Star Wars has officially announced that The Book of Boba Fett will be a spin-off to The Mandalorian.

The announcement was made by the official Star Wars Twitter account, which shared the logo for The Book of Boba Fett. "The Book of Boba Fett, a new Original Series, starring Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen and executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, is coming to @DisneyPlus Dec. 2021," the caption read.

It's a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. After all, fans have been hoping that Boba Fett will play a major role in the next season of The Mandalorian. Although it looks like Boba and Fennec Shand will part ways with Din Djarin, Disney and Lucasfilm still have plans for the former bounty hunter and his assassin companion.

The Book of Boba Fett was teased in the post-credits sequence in the season finale of The Mandalorian Season 2. In the scene, Boba and Fennec Shand are revealed to have gone back to Tatooine, where they head for Jabba the Hutt's abandoned Palace. Interestingly, they find Bib Fortuna, who had somehow survived the destruction of Jabba's sail barge and took over the Palace.

Not surprisingly, the meeting is a brief one for Bib Fortuna and Boba Fett, who immediately killed the former. The post-credits scene concludes with Boba sitting on Jabba the Hutt's throne as Fennec Shand gets a drink for them to share.

It was only a brief scene, but it's enough for Star Wars fans to speculate on what will happen in The Book of Boba Fett. There is a possibility that the new series will follow Boba and Fennec Shand as they go about completing unfinished business. In addition to that, there is a good chance that characters from The Mandalorian could appear in the new show.

The Book of Boba Fett will star Temeura Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. The new show will be executive produced by The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni as well as Robert Rodriguez, who might direct the series. It is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in December 2021.
