Super Junior defeated One Direction in the final round of Billboard's 2020 Boyband Battle.

According to a report by Billboard, Super Junior prevailed over all other entries and survived five rounds of voting to emerge victorious in the fan-voted poll.

Among the nominees in this year's Boyband Battle were BTS, EXO, NCT, Why Don't We, NSYNC, Westlife, Jonas Brothers, The Wanted, Aventura, CNCO, B2K, Boyz II Men, Day26, 98 Degrees, New Edition, 2gether, SEVENTEEN, MENUDO, MONSTA X, Hanson, 112, 5 Seconds of Summer, Color Me Badd, BIGBANG, All 4 One, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Son by Four, Take That, One Direction, and Piso 21.

In the first round, Super Junior prevailed over Aventura and went head to head against the Jonas Brothers in the second round. In the quarterfinals, they won over the American group Why Don't We?

They made it to the semi-finals and managed to beat Latin American boy band CNCO to land a spot in the finals wherein they were pitted against British superstars One Direction.

Super Junior's fandom, ELFs or Everlasting Friends, went against Directioners, 1D's fans, in a tight race until the voting closed December 23rd at 1 pm EST.

This was not the first time for ELFs to deliver a victory for Super Junior in a Billboard poll. Two years ago, ELFs also took the crown in the Fan Army Face-Off and beat worthy competitors like SEVENTEEN's Carat, Liam Payne's fan army, Selena Gomez's Selenators, and Harry Styles' Stylers.

After winning this year's Billboard Boyband Battle, Super Junior's Yesung immediately tweeted his thanks.

"Christmas gifts from ELF to us," he posted, attaching a photo of Super Junior's win on the poll.

2020 has been an eventful year for Super Junior. Last November, the group celebrated their 15th debut anniversary with a series of events to thank their loyal fandom for their support.

Meanwhile, Super Junior is promoting their upcoming comeback album. The album was initially announced for release this December but Label SJ delayed it to January 2021 to have more time to prepare and promote, Hello Kpop reported.

The 10th studio album will be entitled The Renaissance. According to Super Junior, the new album marks a fresh chapter in their history.

Super Junior has released three tracks from the upcoming album, including "The Melody," B-Side track "Burn the Floor," and "Raining Spell for Love."
