MacKenzie Scott, Ex-Wife Of Jeff Bezos, Marries Seattle School Teacher

MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropist and former wife of Jeff Bezos, has tied the knot again after her divorce from the Amazon.com founder, according to CNN and Reuters on Monday.

Dan Jewett, a teacher from Seattle, acknowledged his marriage to Scott -- one of the wealthiest people in the world -- this weekend on the couple's webpage for The Giving Pledge, CNN reported.

Scott, 50, is ranked by Forbes as the world's 22nd-richest person with an estimated value of around $53 billion. Her divorce from Bezos in 2019 after 25 years of marriage left her with a 4% stake in Amazon.

Scott has focused much of her time recently to philanthropic programs to help underserved communities, food banks and Black education, among other charitable efforts.

Since her divorce, Scott has donated more than $4 billion of her wealth in the course of four months, based on a post she wrote on Medium in December. That followed donations of $1.7 billion in 2020 to charitable programs including racial equality, LGBTQ rights, climate change and public health.

"In a stroke of happy coincidence. I'm married to one of the most generous and kind people I know -- and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others," Forbes quoted Jewett as saying in a Giving Pledge statement.

"My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won't wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty," Scott said in remarks quoted by CNN.

The Giving Pledge was created in 2010 by American business tycoon Warren Buffett together with by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda to encourage the world's wealthiest people to donate most of their fortune to philanthropic and charitable causes.

Scott and Jewett apparently met at the Lakeside School, a private school where Scott's children attend (and where Bill Gates went) and where Jewett taught as a chemistry teacher.
