Recent claims suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to cease interviews, proclaiming they have "nothing left to say," is seen by royal insiders as belated damage control.

A royal insider shared with a media outlet the troubling context in which many of the Sussexes' public statements occurred. Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly grappling with severe physical pain and emotional distress during her final days, following the death of her husband, Prince Philip, in 2021.

The insider painted a somber picture of the Queen's final months. She was nearly blind, hard of hearing, and often disoriented, barely leaving her apartments in Windsor Castle. "Her presence on the balcony at the jubilee required a herculean effort. It was a moment when Harry and Meghan should have remained silent. Yet, they chose to air a barrage of hurtful films and interviews, targeting her life's accomplishments," the source lamented.

Referring to Harry's memoir, Spare, which included an additional chapter penned after the Queen's demise in September 2022, the source expressed profound disappointment. "Harry's decision to announce his memoir while his grandmother was grieving the loss of her husband and nearing her own end was profoundly cruel," the insider remarked.

The insider contended that even if the Sussexes' promise to maintain silence is true, which they doubted, it would do little to alleviate the "anger and disgust" felt by some royal affiliates over their perceived mistreatment of the Queen during her final years.

Yet, amidst the undercurrent of resentment, it's important to remember that the Duke of Sussex still harbored deep affection for his great-grandmother. The Duke reached her bedside just hours after her passing, reportedly whispering to her that he "hoped she would be happy."

The information about Harry and Meghan's conduct during Queen Elizabeth's final years was disclosed by a source to the Daily Beast.
