Queen Elizabeth used to write hilarious letters as her dogs to send to her former equerry's furry pets and these handwritten notes were framed on the bathroom wall in the home of Sir Blair Stewart-Wilson.

This interesting tidbit was revealed in the documentary The Queen and her Cousins with presenter Alexander Armstrong. He said that he has seen those "wickedly funny" letters many years ago and he wished he could recall the exact messages. He remembered moments of clutching his stomach hard because he could not stop laughing over the letters.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith said that Queen Elizabeth might appear stoic in public but she is quite larger than life in person. In private, the monarch has quite the sense of humor and could manage to laugh at herself.

Smith revealed that Queen Elizabeth found herself watching a rerun of the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana during a party in London one time. She apparently uttered out loud that "Miss Piggy face" is on TV, referring to herself.

Artist Juliet Pannett shared an interesting anecdote about the queen's legendary sense of humor. While she was staying at Sandringham one holiday, Queen Elizabeth went out to get cake and items at a community supermarket.

Her Majesty wore a headscarf and was slightly unrecognizable. A lady who came to the shop bumped into her and said that she "looks like the queen." The monarch simply said to the lady that her comment felt reassuring.

During one royal engagement, Luisa Mattioli, the wife of Roger Moore, who famously played the British agent James Bond, was blunt enough to ask the queen if she also carried around a purse with her home in Buckingham Palace. With her sharp wit, the monarch replied that she definitely does because her house is "very big, you know."

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth has been known to love dogs since she was a little girl. She grew fond of Corgis in particular after her father gifted her with this breed as a child.

The queen had at least 30 Corgis as pets in the last 80 years and many of these were descended from her Susan, one of her first few Corgis. She didn't have any more intention to have a new dog after her last Corgi, Vulcan, died in 2020.

However, in February 2021, Queen Elizabeth acquired new Corgis and named them Fergus and Muick. They keep her company in Windsor Castle during the lockdown and while her husband, Prince Philip, had been recovering at the hospital.
