Stephen Curry To Return March 1 But Warriors’ Title-Chase Will Only Resume Next Season

Stephen Curry will be back in action for the Golden State Warriors, and if things unfold as planned, his first game after four months of being on the sideline will be against the Washington Wizards on March 1. As expected, Curry's return will be gradual in order to determine that his injured left has completely healed.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has announced this week that the final word on Curry's return will be known come Saturday, meaning if indicators will tell that he is fit to play, then the two-time MVP will be deployed on the court.

"He'll continue to work this week, and we'll make that determination on Saturday whether he'll play on Sunday," CBS Sports reported Kerr as saying.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, it is quite certain that Curry will suit for the match against Wizards, adding that the return to active play is in line with the earlier assertion from Curry's camp that he will back in the season and it will be no later than March.

To be sure, though, a broken metacarpal that is still healing will bother Curry. He has earlier admitted that it will feel different when he handles the ball again in a competitive game.

"Anybody who has had surgery knows it takes a long time to get back to true normal," the six-time All-Star was quoted by Bleacher Report as saying.

"This was a serious one that had a lot of nuances to it with the two surgeries and the nerve damage and stuff I'm still dealing with," he added.

Curry will return to a team that has seen changes on the roster, most notably the recent departure of D'Angelo Russell. And he will rejoin a crew that was orphaned by the absence of Klay Thompson, and without him, the team slid to the lowest in the NBA standings.

At 12-45, there is little doubt that the season is lost on the Warriors. It is not expected that even if Curry will more than his fair share on the court, it will be hard to turn back the reality of the Golden State exiting soon from the season.

For Curry, the remainder of the season will be for him to be more prepared for what lies ahead. Clearly, the main goal for the Warriors is to make sure that the main and the rest of the squad will ready for the next mission - to return to title contention for Season 2020-21.

The Warriors superstar can also make use of the last 22 games to readjust with the team's fresh additions, specifically with his new backcourt companion in the person of Andrew Wiggins.
