Twitter To Strip Trump Of Special Protection After Biden Becomes President

After Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, Donald Trump will become like any other people when it comes to Twitter.

Twitter has confirmed that U.S. President Trump will lose the public interest protections that keep his account or posts from being removed or banned.

Since becoming the commander in chief in 2017, Trump has not had any Tweets blocked or deleted by the social media platform. He will be stripped of the special privilege world leaders are granted once Biden sits in the Oval Office.

Twitter confirmed to Engadget and The Verge that its public interest policy only applies to "current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions."

Twitter has previously placed labels or warnings to Trump's tweets, but when he leaves office, all his posts can be deleted without notification.

The social media site has added multiple warnings to tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account, including many since Tuesday's U.S. election that made baseless accusations of voting fraud.

Trump recently lashed out at Twitter, claiming it is "out of control, made possible through the government gift of Section 230."

On Saturday morning, Trump tweeted that he "won the election, by a lot" in which Twitter placed a warning label on that read: "Official sources may not have called the race when this was tweeted," The Grio quoted Trump and Twitter as saying.

Trump has unloaded numerous verbal attacks on Twitter right after Election Day, baselessly denouncing the electoral system and accusing the Democrats of trying to "steal" the election.

Reuters reported that Facebook will also remove the special privilege that Trump has been granted since being in office.
