A key architect of China's foreign policy has said the Biden administration should butt out of Beijing's internal affairs, adding that it is time for a foreign policy reset by both countries.

Yang Jiechi, director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said the U.S. should stop interfering with China's core interests because China never meddles with U.S. internal affairs, including U.S. elections.

He also said the Biden administration's support of Uighur Muslims and other ethnic minorities in China, which the Americans say are being denied human rights by Beijing, should stop.

"The United States should stop interfering in Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang and other issues regarding China's territorial integrity and sovereignty," said Yang via an online forum organized by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations on Tuesday in Beijing.

He said China wants "a new type of international relations characterized by mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, and for building a community with a shared future for mankind."

On the other hand, Yang said no force, including the U.S. "can stop China's continuous development or the noble cause of global peace and development."

"We in China hope that the United States will rise above the outdated mentality of zero-sum, major-power rivalry and work with China to keep the relationship on the right track," he said.

There is also the job of repairing diplomatic and trade ties damaged by former president Donald Trump, Yang said.

China hopes the new Biden administration will respond to the "will of both peoples and follow the trend of history," Yang said.
