Prince William Will Do TV Interviews When He Is King, Broadcaster Claims

Prince William will not discount a TV interview when it's his time to reign as Great Britain's monarch, according to a former broadcaster and political strategist.

Alastair Campbell, who was the spokesperson of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, claims he has recollections of Prince William having a different view on doing interviews than his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

In a video conversation with Palace Confidential, the former journalist said that he specifically asked this question to the second in line to the British throne during a Q & A at a dinner event a few years ago. William apparently acknowledged that "the ship has sailed" on monarchs not granting TV interviews and Campbell thought this was an interesting reply.

Queen Elizabeth hasn't done a sit-down chat with any journalist since she became the monarch. Former BBC broadcaster John Humphrys once intimated that he tried to convince the queen but while she listened patiently to his pitch, Her Majesty still turned him down.

Instead, the Queen prepares her speech and records what she wants to say to the public. The only time she did sit down with journalists was when she did a commentary of her 1953 Coronation Day for BBC in 2018. Even then, this wasn't done live and the journalist, Alastair Bruce, was not permitted to ask questions outside of the topic of her coronation.

This news comes as sources told Us Weekly that William is "struggling to hold back" his sentiments towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Oprah Winfrey interview. The insider said that the Duke of Cambridge is eager to "get his side" out in public but he has to abide by the statement of Queen Elizabeth, who released a statement saying that this matter with Harry and Markle is for the family to discuss privately.

However, during a royal event days after the interview, William was the only royal to speak out when a reporter asked for a comment. He simply said that his family is "very much not racist," alluding to Harry and Meghan’s allegation that racism was a big factor to why they stepped back from their royal roles.

Sources also said that William feels uncomfortable talking to his brother these days because he could share details of their conversation to Gayle King, who is a friend of Markle. Days after the Winfrey interview aired, King announced on her show, CBS This Morning, that Harry spoke with his brother and father but it was not productive.

According to insiders, Prince William felt that Harry took a "cheap shot" to leak information to journalists to twist the truth. The royal feels he'll put his family and himself at risk if Harry were to share details with the CBS host again.
