U.S. Vice president Kamala Harris is bound for Singapore and Vietnam in August, according to Reuters, citing a source.

Details of Harris' trip have not been finalized yet, the report said, but it is likely related to the Covid-19 situation in Asia.

Harris recently visited Mexico and Guatemala with the goal of reducing migration from the region.

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden entrusted Harris with addressing the core causes of the increase of undocumented Central American migrants.

"I want to be clear to folks in the region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come," Harris said at a news conference in Guatemala June 7. "I believe if you come to our border, you will be turned back."

In March, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Japan for the first leg of a four-day Asia tour aimed at reaffirming alliances with U.S. partners.

The trip is the Biden administration's first Cabinet-level trip to Asia, as the U.S. shifts away from the unilateral strategy of former President Donald Trump and toward multilateralism and partner-building with a focus on Asia.
