'Queen Of The South' Season 5 Filming Update: Will Production Start Soon?
Queen of the South season 5 hasn't resumed production at the moment. Filming was forced to shut down earlier this year due to the current global health crisis. Since then, there were no confirmed details as to when everything could start up again.
But now, it looks like Queen of the South season 5 is getting closer to resuming production. Recently, showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez posted a photo on Twitter featuring the series' script supervisor, Barry Caldwell. The post comes with a caption: "We are back #queenfamilia."
In the photo, Caldwell teased the scripts of the new season in the series' Facebook group. He noted that they're getting the show back on the road and the "circus is back in town." This is a strong indication that filming could start again before the year ends.
Previous rumors suggest that production could resume this coming November. But, it seems like filming may resume a couple of days before Halloween. When one fan asked when they could begin, Caldwell responded they'll start shooting in "10 days."
Originally, Queen of the South season 5 was scheduled to premiere in June 2020. However, the plan wasn't followed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The series made some adjustments to accommodate the current global health crisis.
Now, many were excited to see what's coming next in the story, considering the dramatic cliffhanger in the season 4 finale. The upcoming installment will continue to follow the tough and ambitious queenpin Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga).
In season 4, we saw the surprising return of her former partner, James Valdez (Peter Gadiot). He will have a significant role in Teresa's life moving forward in Queen of the South season 5. She will experience a turning point in her life now that James returns.
At the same time, Teresa will be making new deals, but new enemies, as well. The Russians, in particular, will have a huge part after what happened in season 4. She informed her men that she wanted to work with the Russian cartel and expand her business.
However, her crew warned her that she's making a dangerous deal and could jeopardize his life. As Teresa struggles to maintain her new operations in New Orleans, another altercation with Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) is just lurking on the surface.
Meanwhile, the release date of Queen of the South season 5 remains uncertain as of this writing. But, fans expect the series to return at some point in 2021 on USA Network. While waiting for the next chapter, all four seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
