The nominees for the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards was finally announced this week, revealing the handful of names leading the pack.

According to Variety, Cardi B is getting ahead of the race with 10 nominations, while being closely followed by music royalty couple, Beyonce and Jay-Z. The latter two, collectively being referred to as The Carters, are blazing the trails with 8 nominations.

Cardi B, whose real name Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, came to the music spotlight via her regular cast appearance on VH1's reality TV hit series, "Love & Hip Hop: New York." By 2017, the Bronx native made it to the US Billboard with chart-topping hits "Bodak Yellow" and "I Like It."

This year, the 25-year-old artist is expected to rake VMA awards like the Video of the Year with "Finesse (Remix)" which she performed with Bruno Mars.

Along with this, she's also in line to receive the Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, to mention a few.

Meanwhile, the Carters are also in contention for Video of the Year as well as for Best Collaboration. The duo has released their first album, as a collaboration, just last month, during their "On The Run II Tour."

"Everything Is Love," the album in question, is currently exclusive on Tidal for streaming and digital download.

Other artists vying for the astronaut trophy include Childish Gambino and Drake with 7 bids each. Incidentally, both names were formerly known for their TV series appearances, with Gambino (Donald Glover) in "Community" and Drake in "Degrassi: The Next Generation."

Fans can cast their votes online via the official MTV voting site.

The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards will be airing live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, August 20.

The cable channel is yet to announce the host for this year's VMAs.
