Apple has not commented anything despite the issues about the new iPhone XS and XS Max smartphones failing to consistently charge when plugged in.

According to BBC, some users of the new Apple model revealed that the device refused to charge if it has been in idle status for a while. Claims say some charge only when the display is being "woken." In line with this, video blogger Lewis Hilsenteger has dubbed the problem as "charge gate" in a video where he demonstrated the problem.

Unfortunately, the prominent tech company has remained silent about the issue. Hillsenteger, who has more than 12 million YouTube subscribers, has presented the issue on his Unbox Therapy channel. He published the video on Sept. 29, 2018, and tested 9 iPhones by plugging them into an official Apple power supply.

The 2017 iPhone X managed to charge without an issue but many of the new XS and XS Max phones refuse to charge while plugged in. His experiment resulted in most phones charging only if the user activates the display to wake up the device. Surprisingly, one of them does not charge at all. He further explained this problem went unnoticed itself in his personal experience as he is using a wireless charging rather than the device's power cable.

"Responding to those people on a platform like this should bring light to it and hopefully some sort of software fix, if possible. This is my job. I have to call this stuff out. I have to hold these companies accountable," he said in the video.

A number of complaints about the XS and XS Max's "failed to charge experiences" were also posted on the discussion forum on Apple's official website. People may also see complaints on social media platforms with people describing the inability to charge the phone at all once the batter is exhausted.

Meanwhile, speculations from some users revealed the problem is related to a recent change in the security settings of Apple. The earlier mentioned source revealed iPhones' lightning port may be disabled when the phone has been idle for a while since the Ios 11.4.1 was released. This will stop cyber attackers, thieves and law enforcement officers from accessing it.

Apple explained on their website that in some situations, it might not be charged. While this may be their best effort to explain, the increasing number of users who are facing the issue does not settle it.
