Singles Day is perhaps China's biggest sales event. The recent Singles Day raked a record-breaking $30 billion in gross merchandise values, which is about 213.5 billion Yuan. What is even more interesting about this set of data is the fact that Apple emerged as the top-selling mobile brand on Alibaba, a platform known for its wide variety of goods especially on the electronics market.

During its 24-hour run, Alibaba's Singles Day shopping event broke quite a handful of record. However, what stands out on top of all these is Apple's performance on what many believe is a highly constricted market. Apple, an American company, was able to outsell its closest rival, Chinese smartphone companies Huawei and Xiaomi.

Following its highly successful Singles Day event, Alibaba released a data showing the top seller in various categories that have scored that highest gross merchandise value. This is through sales using the company's wide-ranging platform including online sales.

Based on the figures released by Alibaba, Apple is just one of the 237 brands that cross the 100 million yuan threshold during the whole run of Singles Day. This revenue equates to about $14.36 million, and that is just for a one-day sales event.

Alibaba holds its Singles Day shopping parade annually. It is one of the most anticipated events in the Chinese shopping calendar. As such, the company reportedly raked in $30.8 billion in sales for this year's sales event. That is equivalent to about 213.5 billion Yuan.

Although Apple is widely held as the winner in this year's Singles Day smartphone sales competition, there is no hard evidence to prove that. Especially since Alibaba refuses to release such data. It is important to note that Huawei, China's largest smartphone brand based on market share, recently overtook Apple's dominance on the global market.

On the perspective of Alibaba's Singles Day sales event, Huawei was hailed as the second highest-selling vendor on the Chinese e-commerce platform, right next to Apple. Xiaomi, another Chinese company, came in very close in third place. Samsung, which is the world's number one smartphone brand, came in the rather unimpressive eighth place.

On the other hand, despite a global slowdown, Apple has found a haven in the Chinese market. In the third quarter of this year, the American tech giant saw its revenue rose by 16 percent. This only accounts for the company's market performance in the Greater China region.
