Syfy has an exciting, action-packed series debuting in January 2019 and the network has recently unveiled another teaser for "Deadly Class" featuring the badass assassin Saya Kuroki. Asian actress Lana Condor was cast in the role in 2017. The 21-year-old budding star is best known for her work as Lara Jean on Netflix's hit movie "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" and as Jubilee on the "X-Men" franchise.
As Saya, however, Condor shows her skills both as an actress and a dancer. Saya is supposed to be the most cunning leader of the Kuroki syndicate, and she has mastered the use of the katana. The teaser gives the audience a glimpse of Saya's skill and Condor's ease of movements.
"Deadly Class" follows the story of teenagers who have been recruited to train in a school for assassins. The show is based on the 2014 graphic novel by Rick Remender and Wes Craig. The duo behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, developed the comic book's story into a TV show with Remender, which landed a deal with Syfy.
Aside from Condor, Benjamin Wadsworth has been cast in the role of Marcus, the social outcast, artist, and poet. He will be very drawn to Saya, who will recruit him to join the assassin high school.
Complicating Marcus' relationship with Saya is Maria, played by Maria Gabriela de Faria. She's beautiful, but she's secretly in love with Marcus. However, Maria has an explosive emotion, which the school thinks she can use to her advantage as a future hired killer.
"Doctor Strange" actor Benedict Wong will also be in the series as Master Lin, the school's headmaster. The students fear the master but, at the same time, want this approval.
Joe Russo described "Deadly Class" as a different type of coming-of-age story. It is brutal, but it will authentically portray the struggles of teenagers. He said that he and his brother were quite impressed with Remender's graphic novel when they first read "Deadly Class" so they decided to turn it into a TV show.
Meanwhile, aside from "Deadly Class," Condor will also have a few high-profile movies opening soon. She headlines the science fiction "Alita: Battle Angel" and the romantic comedy "Summer Night." She's also in the thriller "Warning."
The young star was born as Tran Dong Lan in Vietnam. She was raised in the U.S. by her adopted parents, Mary, and Bob Condor, who changed her name to Lana Therese.
