"Ozark" season 3 is coming back on Netflix. The streaming platform renewed the series last October 2018 for another 10-episode run. However, work on the set has not yet started. It doesn't look like "Ozark" season 3 would be launching on Netflix this summer unlike the previous two seasons, which were released last July 2017 and August 2018.
Before "Ozark" season 2 aired on Netflix, Jason Bateman toldEllen DeGeneres on her show that he will be taking a break from work. The actor, who plays Marty Byrde, the Mexican cartel's accountant and money launderer in the series, expressed that he will likely not resume with his commitments until March 2019 because he needed to spend time with his growing kids.
Thus, there hasn't been any new casting announcements on "Ozark" season 3 so far since production has not yet started. However, it's pretty clear that when the second season ended, the show stood to add a new character who will replace Jason Butler Harner.
Harner played FBI Agent Roy Petty in "Ozark" season 1, and 2 and his character was onto the illegal activities of Marty and his wife, Wendy Byrde. Viewers may recall, however, that Harner's character died at the end of last season at the hands of his informer Cade Langmore (played by Trevor Long).
The suspicious circumstances surrounding his death will likely spark a new investigation in the Ozark. It will likely lead the new FBI agent to look into the business operations of the Byrdes and their trusted assistant, Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner), Cade's daughter.
But who will series creators Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams cast as the FBI agent who will go after the Byrdes in "Ozark" season 3? Will the character be another woman?
When the show returned for a second season, "Ozark" brought in a dominant female presence in actress Janet McTeer. She played the cartel's Chicago-based lawyer, Helen Pierce, who was as ruthless as the people she worked for.
But while Marty was intimated by Helen, Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) slowly learned to work with the attorney. Wendy could only rely on the help of Helen to take care of the family's problem with Ruth's father.
It's still unclear, however, if McTeer's character will return on "Ozark" season 3. If she does, will Helen also be able to help the Byrdes against the new FBI agent that will surely make their life more turbulent?
"Ozark" season 1 and 2 are still streaming on Netflix. Aside from Bateman, Linney, Garner, and McTeer, the show also stars Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde, Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Byrde and Jordana Spiro as Rachel Garrison.
