"Peaky Blinders" season 5 has officially ended filming. After just four months of work on the set, the next installment of the BBC series about the Shelby gangster family might be back sooner on television sooner than anticipated.

Director Anthony Byrne confirmed that filming has finished for "Peaky Blinders" season 5 in a post on Instagram. The photo he shared featured lead star Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, wearing his full costume as he stood talking next to Byrne on their first day on the set.

The director said it took them just 18 weeks to film the fifth season. He also thanked Murphy for being a collaborator and a friend, but he also hinted that their work together is not yet over.

"Peaky Blinders" season 5 will now head to the editing room, where everything will be put together. In the coming weeks, viewers should expect a full teaser that will finally give some hints about what will happen in the new season.

Creator Steven Knight revealed via Birmingham Mail that part of the storyline of "Peaky Blinders" season 5 will touch on the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the rise of fascism across Britain and Europe in the 1930s. But the main plot will still definitely center on Tommy as a first-time MP at the Westminster Houses of Parliament.

Tommy will learn pretty quickly that there's this charismatic politician whom he has to either ally with or be at odds with. The playing field will be different this time around because Tommy's choices will not just affect his family but a whole community that elected him as their representative.

Earlier, rumors abound that another major character might die on "Peaky Blinders" season 5 based on a short teaser. Eagle-eyed fans apparently saw images of a man being crucified, who was curiously wearing a flat cap, Tommy's favorite hat.  Does the teaser hint of Tommy's demise? Or will this death be used as another ruse, as it happened in the fourth season?

There have also been rumors suggesting sportsman David Beckham will appear in the series. Before the production wrapped, Beckham was seen on the set of "Peaky Blinders" season 5 and he even posted a photo with Knight and Murphy on his Instagram.

But a spokesperson for BBC relayed that Beckham was simply on the set for a visit. He was also talking style points from the period drama because Beckham showed up at the recent Paris Fashion Week a few days later wearing an ensemble fit for "Peaky Blinders."

BBC has not yet announced the actual launch date of "Peaky Blinders" season 5 but from the looks of it, the show will hit its target of release before fall. The show will also stream on Netflix after the full season will finish airing on BBC.
