It looks like "Toy Story 4" will be a real tearjerker for long-time fans of the franchise. New plot details have emerged that suggest this will be the final journey for Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen).
The fourth installment of the beloved Disney animated film will reportedly center on the introduction of Forky (Tony Hale), the spork with pipe cleaner arms. The new character will have a hard time accepting that he is a toy even as Woody's gang has welcomed him with open arms.
"Toy Story 4" will expound on Forky's existential crisis as he tries to learn how to be a toy from his new friends. But it's not quite clear how much his struggles will impact Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang.
At some point in "Toy Story 4," the group will go outside of their new home with a child named Bonnie. Their adventure will take them to a carnival, where they will also meet other toys like Ducky (Keegan-Micael Key) and Bunny (Jordan Peele).
These new events in "Toy Story 4" will open up new adventures for Forky in the future. However, it may also mean that it's the end of the line for the adventures of Woody and Buzz.
Hanks and Allen previously hinted that they recorded a few emotional moments while working on the fourth movie. Though the details are still unclear, speculations have risen that this would be the last "Toy Story" for the stars.
Fans, however, were not expecting that the film would still be getting a fourth installment until its announcement in 2014. Everyone thought that the 2010 release of "Toy Story 3" seemed like a fitting end to the story of Woody and Buzz with their owner Andy.
Meanwhile, it will not be a completely sad ending for the toys. It's been confirmed that Woody will be reunited with the love of his life, Bo Peep (Annie Potts), who was noticeably not in the third movie.
Potts told Radio Times that she mostly worked on "Toy Story 4" with Hanks. They have more scenes together in this movie, which Potts said was unusual because they used to do solo voice recordings of the screenplay.
Disney and Pixar will release "Toy Story 4" in theaters on June 21. The movie also features the voices of Joan Cusack, John Ratzenberger, Timothy Dalton, Jeff Garlin, Laurie Metcalf, Estelle Harris, Jodi Benson, and Michael Keaton.
