Samsung is taking a step to help save the planet Earth. The South Korean company announced that it will be implementing a "no plastic" rule in an effort to do its part in reducing the amount of plastic waste that has been proven harmful to the environment.

According to CNN, Samsung is the latest international business that pledged to support the call for a clean and green environment. As stated, the company will give up the use of plastic for packing its products and will opt for alternatives like paper and other sustainable materials.

The tech giant firm relayed that the initiative will start in the first half of this year so the consumers will now see most of their mobile phones, tablets, home appliances and other products wrapped in recycled papers or bio-based plastics. To show how serious they are to commit to this pledge, Samsung has also created a team dedicated to developing innovative designs for environmentally friendly packaging options.

On Jan. 27, via press release, head of Samsung's Global Customer Satisfaction Center, Gyeong Bin Jeon said, "Samsung Electronics is stepping up in addressing society's environmental issues such as resource depletion and plastic wastes."

He added, "We are committed to recycling resources and minimizing pollution coming from our products. We will adopt more environmentally sustainable materials even if it means an increase in cost."

Moreover, Samsung divulged that it is also redesigning its chargers because the item's original glossy plastic finish requires plastic protection films. It will change the surface to a matte finish for the same look but without the need for plastic.

Starting in 2020, Samsung will only source its papers and fiber materials from the Forest Stewardship Council, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme. This is to make sure that the company will only get its packaging materials from trusted and certified organizations that are also committed to protecting the planet.

"The company will adopt more environmentally sustainable materials even if it means an increase in cost," Gyeong Bin Jeon said.

Finally, by 2030, Samsung is hoping to collect around 7.5 million tons of discarded goods and make use of 500,000 tons of recycled plastics. With this clear goal, it can be said that the Korean company is definitely setting a good example for other big manufacturing companies to follow. The company believes that is only by working together that people can save the environment thus everyone must contribute to make the world better again.
