Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed their development work during his visit to Kashmir on Sunday as separatists that are against Indian rule calls for a shutdown in the Himalayan region.

During his one-day visit, the shops and business establishments were closed and armed government forces and commandos flooded the streets of Kashmir while roads were fenced by razor wire and iron barricades to prevent protesters and rebels from attacking.

Kashmir lies on the boundary of India and Pakistan. The two countries both administer parts of the region but they both claim the ownership of the whole region. Separatists have been at war with the Indian rule since 1989 as they demand their freedom or their unification with Pakistan.

The prime minister inaugurated some infrastructure projects and he has started the Indian government's foundation work on Kashmir needs including health care, hydropower generation, and education in three places in the region.

During his visit traffic in Srinagar, Kashmir's main City and the center of aggression against Indian rule was sparse. The prime minister reviewed developmental projects in the city despite the threat surrounding the venue. Modi said that the Indian government will fight terrorism forcefully and he assured that they will break its foundation.

Kashmir authorities have captured dozens of anti-Indian protesters overnight and they placed separatist leaders under house arrest to secure that they can's stage a protest. The government also shut down the internet on mobile phones in the area and operations of its train services were postponed to stop the anti-government forces from organizing and disseminating protest videos.

The downtown Srinagar was placed on security lockdown and the residents of the area were advised to stay in their homes to stop them from joining demonstrations. The prime minister inaugurated a university during his visit to the remote Ladakh region along the border of China and Pakistan in the morning. He also addressed a public rally in a Hindu-dominated area in Jammu. The leader delivered a message where he cleared political overtones in preparation for the upcoming election these coming months.

He said that there are many children of Mother India who have faced persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. He assured that India will stand with those were part of India at one time. The anti-India faction composed of three Kashmiri leaders, known as the Joint Resistance Leadership, leads protesters on Modi's visit. The leaders said that a person who in his pursuit to crush Kashmiri resistance ordered killings and damaging properties, hurting Kashmiri economy and other oppressive measures deserves only a protest from those he has oppressed.
