Apple faces a lawsuit for allegedly forcing customers to buy a new iPhone charger after users have updated to the latest iOS.
Apple faced an attempted class-action lawsuit after Monica Emerson, the main plaintiff filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The suit filed which says on behalf of all other members of the public similarly situated was filed on Monday.
The lawsuit stated that on November 2016, thousands of iPhone from the United States and other countries experienced an unusual issue with their iPhones after their device went through the latest iOS update. The claims said that their iPhone displayed a message saying that their accessory may not be supported by their iPhone device.
Times of India hints that the lawsuit also claims that the said incident was pushing the iPhone users to buy a new charger or to buy a new iPhone if the problem will not be resolved by replacing the chargers. Emerson clarified that the charger was not a third party supply but was purchased from an authorized Apple distributor.
The claims note that the chargers were normally functioning before September 13, 2016. It was also noted that the Apple iOS update took place without Emerson's approval.
The lawsuit claims that the Apple iOS update in 2016 was specifically designed and programmed to reject old iPhone chargers from properly charging the iPhones. The claims are now asking the Cupertino tech giant in what the plaintiff calls as a deceptive practice and that in order to rectify the malpractice, Apple must engage in corrective advertising.
As per the records, Apple did have an iOS update on November 2016. The tech giant released the iOS 10.1.1 back then. It was also during that time that reports began to surface that Apple is not supporting third-party accessories such as chargers. However, the said information was not substantial to prove that Emerson's claim was true.
On the other hand, Apple's own support has a list of the possible reasons why an iPhone user may encounter the statement that says that the accessory they are using may not be supported. The tech giant specified that reasons behind the problem could be that the users need to update to a newer version of iOS for certain types of accessories.
Another reason for an iPhone to refuse to recognize a formerly working charger is that the iOS device's connector is damaged or dirty, the accessory really isn't supported by the device, isn't Apple certified or is damaged, according to Times Now News.
