A new leak has given away what could possibly be the next iPhone's most exciting feature -- an upgraded camera setup.
Apple's iPhone sales have decreased in the past months, particularly in the Chinese market. Aside from strong competition, analysts believe that one reason is because of the lack of significant upgrades from one flagship to another.
BGR points out that in previous years, the Cupertino giant has managed to introduce a new breakthrough feature in every iPhone handset that has an "S" in its name. For example, the iPhone 4S introduced Siri to the world, the iPhone 5S had Touch ID, and the iPhone 6S brought 3D Touch (or force touch) with it.
Apple's recent flagships, the iPhone XS and XS Max, however, didn't seem to bring anything that's considerably significant compared to their older siblings. The XS is but a beefed-up iPhone X, while the XS Max is but a bigger iPhone XS.
Chinese consumers love flagship handsets, Forbes noted, and with the latest iPhones lacking in flagship-worthy features, they just won't sell as much as Apple would've hoped. A recent leak, however, shows that Apple seems to be working on an exciting new feature for their iPhones, specifically the iPhone 11: a triple-camera setup.
According to a report from Digitimes, Largan Precision, a company that supplies Apple with lens modules used for various devices, is "optimistic" about their production of "3-lens or more" modules designed for flagship smartphone models.
Largan Precision also said they have started shipping out "periscope lens modules" and modules that feature "seven plastic lens pieces." In addition, Largan Precision also said they are ready to supply in-panel (or under-display) optical fingerprint-recognition lens modules as well as 3D sensing lenses.
Based on these, it appears that Apple might be adopting a three-camera setup for the upcoming iPhones. It's about time Apple got into the fray, and made their own mark in the three-camera smartphone generation, as competitors, such as Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Oppo already have models sporting three or more rear cameras.
To date, Huawei has the most impressive rear camera setup in any smartphone. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro uses an 8MP 3x telephoto sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 40MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. These distinct cameras work together to create outstanding shots.
Samsung, on the other hand, decided to dip their toes in the water by putting three cameras behind a midrange smartphone, the Galaxy A7. It may not have the best specs when compared to an Apple flagship but it does give users three rear cameras at a significantly low price.
