Google Stations will soon open in more than 50 locations in the Philippines which will offer free and high-quality hotspots. Google also signed a partnership agreement with Smart to offer Wi-Fi hotspots in the nation's public areas including airports, markets, malls, and bus stations. Unilever is also one of the partners of Google in the project.
Mahesh Bhalerao, Global Director of Google's Next Billion Users Partnerships, said during the Google for Philippines Forum in Parañaque City that the Google stations will allow Filipinos from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to connect with high-quality internet after the Google stations are developed in more than fifty locations by the end of February.
By the end of the month, Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2), Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3), Araneta Bus Port, Cebu South Bus Terminal, Clark International Airport, Davao International Airport, Batangas Port, Ateneo De Naga University, Bohol Island State University, Bukidnon State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, Columban College Inc., Holy Cross of Davao College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Southern Luzon State University, University of Cebu-Main Campus, City Hall of Baguio, City Hall of Mandaluyong, Ali Mall, and Gateway Mall will have free Wi-Fi through the Google Stations.
Google Stations are already working in five other countries that include India, Mexico, Thailand, and Nigeria. In 2017, it was rolled out in Indonesia. The Philippines is the 6th nation to enjoy Google Station.
On separate news, Google Philippines plans to help job seekers find opportunities easier through a built-in job search feature introduced on Wednesday. The new feature will collate lists of possible jobs from different platforms and websites across the internet.
The feature was announced, along with the Google Station, during the Google for Philippines event on Wednesday. The "Jobs on Google Search" will compile listings from across the web which will include listings from the Department of Labor and Employment, Civil Service Commission, Kalibrr, Jobayan, and Jobs Cloud. It will also incorporate "smart filters" including job type, location, posting date, and company type to give job seekers a more customized result.
Stacie Chan, Asia-Pacific Product Partnerships manager, said that the job seeking experience will be unique since the platform surface diverse job postings from hundreds of websites. The manager added that Google has already helped connect more than 100 million people in many countries to job listings and they are excited about the impact that it will bring to Filipinos.
