While Sony's next generation console, the PlayStation 5, is still a few years away from release, fans can't help but imagine what the new gaming system would feature. What could the PS5 bring to players when it arrives? Read on for more details.
The PlayStation 4, along with its rival, the Xbox One, ushered in a new age of console gaming. These systems introduced 4K resolution gameplay, as well as titles that could run on 30 FPS. Because of this, players can expect to see more in the future.
In an interview with GamingBolt, Anton Yudintsev, CEO of "War Thunder" developer Gaijin Entertainment, said he expects the next generation consoles to introduce far better features than what current-gen consoles offer. This, according to him, is because of what he calls the inevitable "computing power leap."
Indeed, gaming systems bring better features with each new generation. What can players expect to see the PlayStation 5 bring? Here are a few possible features:
Cloud Gaming
Yudintsev believes the PS5 will feature cloud gaming. So far, various companies have made investments in the cloud. These companies, such as Microsoft, Google, EA and even Nintendo, have put their confidence in cloud gaming.
Cloud gaming has its benefits and downsides. While it can possibly affect traditional game retail sales negatively, it can help developers reach more players. It remains to be seen, though, how this will affect the gaming industry as a whole.
Backwards Compatibility
A patent showing Sony's plans for the PS5 to have backwards compatibilty has surfaced, suggesting that the next-gen console will be able to play older-gen titles. What's more, the PS5 will have the ability to enhance older titles on the fly, and might pave the way for more remasters and remakes.
So far, Game developers have lessened their efforts into designing new games for backwards compatibility, and more on making them exclusive for current-gen consoles. With the PS5, players will get the chance to expand their game collection, without having to purchase older consoles.
Local multiplayer
Long before online co-op and PVP, there was "couch co-op." Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Worldwide Studios President Shawn Layden said earlier that they are going to make some noise with local multiplayer on the PS5. Although he didn't mention how they are going to do that, he said they will look into it.
Local multiplayer, Layden says, gets more family members to join in on the fun. So far, however, only sports and racing titles take advantage of this feature.
