Line of Duty season 5's finale episode is bound to shock fans as the show is drawing closer to reveal the identity of "H". While the obvious choice would be Ted Hastings (played by Adrian Dunbar), there are wild speculations that the person behind this corrupt identity could actually be Kate (played by Vicky McClure).

According to Express, fans believe that Kate may have been setting up Ted to make it seem like he is the corrupt officer. Others have also observed that Kate has been relegated to the background and has not been particularly focused in Line of Duty season 5, so as not to draw too much suspicions.

Kate's behavior from past seasons has also been scrutinized by loyal viewers of Line of Duty. They believe she sabotaged the raid in the flat blocks in season 3, where a tip revealed a corrupt police officer would be there.

The police inspector also used to talk about her undercover days in Line of Duty. She always said that sometimes you do bad things so as not to blow your cover.

Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio told Yahoo! that only a handful of people know the real identity of H. This has been the series' well-guarded secret for such a long time now.

"The number of people who genuinely know right now is probably less than a dozen, and I'm looking forward to the day when it can be measured in millions. It's something that takes us in interesting places," Mercurio said to the press.

The Line of Duty season 5 finale is set to air on Sunday, May 5. The special episode will be 90 minutes long and was expanded because of the nail-biting storyline.

This will not be the last outing for the series as BBC has renewed Line of Duty for season 6 in 2017. Mercurio said that he's grateful for the early renewal because it will keep the momentum going when it comes to the writers' room.

It's unclear, however, if the original cast would be back for Line of Duty season 6. Star Martin Compston spoke on the show This Morning and hinted that he's not sure if he will be back next season. He even suggested that his character Steve Arnott may be killed off in the season 5 finale.
