American Gods season 3 is returning on Starz. The show created by Neil Gaiman has received a renewal last March, which has given the writers a headstart to begin working on the new scripts.

The third installment of this supernatural drama series will tackle the Lakeside storyline as it was in the books. According to Gaiman, Shadow (played by Ricky Whittle) will be laying low in this new town as he processes what he learned in American Gods season 2 finale.

Shadow finally found out that the man he was working for, the devilish Mr. Wednesday (played by Ian McShane) who is also known as Odin, is his father. He's the one responsible for the death of his wife Laura (played by Emily Browning), so Shadow tried to get away from his clutches and rode a bus to a town where he's sure he won't be followed in American Gods season 2.

Gaiman told Entertainment Weekly that Shadow would assume a new name -- Mike Ainsel -- when he gets to Lakeside in American Gods season 3. He will also likely start life anew and find the chance to date someone after mourning his wife for so long.

"Shadow is going to try and find a place to be safe, and we'll find out how well that works for him," Gaiman said. "Wednesday is also going to be determined to get Shadow back, and we'll find out how well that works for him."

Gaiman is working with a new showrunner Charles "Chic" Eglee in developing American Gods season 3. He also hinted to Deadline that he and Eglee are already planning towards American Gods season 4 even as AMC has not yet renewed the show this far.

Meanwhile, the author won't say if Laura and Mad Sweeney (played by Pablo Schreiber) are returning to American Gods season 3. Viewers saw how Shadow was able to pierce Sweeney through the heart which also affected his former wife. Laura is still somewhat alive, however, since she had Sweeney's gold coin when all the madness took place. Could she have the ability to bring Sweeney back?

Gaiman said that the mystery of the characters return would be part of the fun of uncovering what's going to happen in American Gods season 3. Starz, however, has not yet confirmed its release date but it will likely be back on air in the first half of 2020.
