Changes are coming for SWAT season 3, particularly with Jessica Cortez (played by Stephanie Sigman). The character's storyline at the end of the second season finale, which aired last Thursday, May 16, hinted that she will be gone for a while to join a training program.

According to Carter Matt, however, this storyline could introduce a SWAT Season 3 cast shake-up that has yet to be confirmed. However, there have been no announcements regarding Sigman's departure from the show. The assumption, for now, is that her character is still intact and pretty much part of the team in the third season.

CBS renewed SWAT season 3 a week before the show aired its finale episode for season 2. The network, however, has not yet announced the show's return date for the 2019-2020 TV season slate. As per Deadline, Sigman and her co-stars Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington, Alex Russel, Peter Onorati, Lina Esco, David Lim and Patrick St. Esprit are still going to be part of SWAT season 3. It's expected that the show will still retain its Thursday schedule.

The drama series is a remake of a TV classic show from the '70s. Moore leads the cast of SWATseason 3 as Hondo Harrelson. The actor, who has worked on Criminal Minds before signing on to SWAT, is proud of how the show presents its stories on television.

"There's nothing like it on TV because we are making a movie-esque show," Moore said in an interview with CBS. "Then there's the life stories and the relationships. We are going to continue to hit on immigration and racial tensions, without preaching."

The SWAT season 2 finale closed with Hondo visiting a recovering Darryl (played by Deshae Frost). He took him to a nearby seashore and told Darryl that he can stay for as long as he needs.  He even offered that they could tour together since Darryl has over 64 days of free time to recover.

Hondo also told Darryl that he might not be able to pay his mother for her sacrifices so he's now going to pay it forward by showing kindness to his friend. The two walk arm by arm, albeit with Darryl in crutches, towards the beach to depict that, for now, things are right where they are for these characters.
