Cerberus Capital Management LP came out with the announcement that Grant Berlin has been appointed Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Real Estate Fundraising.
According to Market Watch, Berlin joined Cerberus after holding a position in Brookfield Asset Management. He held the same position in the previous company.
In his time at Brookfield, Berlin was credited for leading fundraising strategies to curb real estate debt. He was also responsible for efficient equity strategies and for forging Brookfield's global real estate consultant relationships.
Lee Millstein, president and Global Head of Real Estate for the company, said that the company was looking forward to working with Berlin.
Cerberus has long been a leader in the global real estate arena, he said. He added that Grant's expertise was a welcome addition as the company looks forward to strengthening their partnerships with investors. Grant has indispensable industry knowledge, an established network of global partners, and has had significant experience with real estate stratagems.
In other news, Reuters reported that Cerberus has been busy on the other front, nearing a deal with French investment fund Ardian. The deal is over wind farms from Spanish renewables group Renovalia. The two companies are in agreement over the sale of these farms worth $617.87 million, as revealed by insiders.
Renovalia has been Cerberus' property since 2015. The move is seen as a mark of interest from Ardian into the green energy sector, where interest from buyers has been heating up. Among the assets being discussed in the deal is Renovalia Reserve, a joint venture from the partnership between Renovalia and BlackRock.
The deal is also an indication of how there is a renewed interest in the green energy sector from investors, especially in Spain. Subsidy cut scares have driven investors away in 2013, but those fears may have subsided.
The cost of wind and solar technology has also become more affordable, allowing investors to step into companies which have invested in cutting off carbon emissions and other green activities.
The addition of Grant Berlin to Cerberus may be to step up their global investments. Berlin seems to be excited with his new position at Cerberus, and Cerberus may also be looking into more investments and deals, such as the one with the French firm. It's a new day on the horizon for Cerberus as it looks to expand and enter into more profitable global deals.
