Patrick J. Adams is returning to Suits, the show that launched his career. The actor, who plays the lawyer Mike Ross in the series, is set to appear in Suits season 9 episode 5 but it's still unclear if he will have more than one guest stint.
Creator Aaron Korsh confirmed to the press that Adams has agreed to be part of Suits season 9. The writer and producer said that there wasn't any doubt that Adams would reprise his role in the final season since he is the very reason why the show exists.
"[Adams] is the foundation of the show; it was built on him, others also but the very foundation we built on Patrick and Mike, and we all wanted to have him back," Korsh said, per Deadline. "It was about how to integrate him organically and in a satisfying way."
Adams, as Mike, will begin filming his episode on Suits season 9 in the first week of June, where his character will be up against Harvey (played by Gabriel Macht) and Samantha (played by Katherine Heigl). But it will not just be a legal battle between the legal minds as Harvey and Mike have a lot of personal history together.
Korsh teased that Suits season 9 episode 5 will have some conflicts, but there will also be a few "fun scenes" with Mike and the old gang. Viewers will likely get emotional to witness this reunion.
However, Suits season 9 will not likely have Adams' TV wife, Meghan Markle, back for the final season. Her character, Rachel Zane, married Adams' Mike at the end of Suits season 7 and the couple moved to the West to open their firm. Her presence will only be hinted in the upcoming season of Suits. Korsh, however, still holds a glimmer of hope that the Duchess of Sussex will agree to cameo in Suits season 9, per Digital Spy.
Duchess Meghan decided to quit Suits to focus on her royal duties as Prince Harry's new bride, and now the mother of their first-born, Archie Harrison. Meanwhile, Adams quit the series because his character's storyline seemed settled and done with after Suits season 7.
Incidentally, Adams never really left Suits since he was still working behind the scenes and directing a few episodes even when he was no longer part of the cast. The actor also maintains a tight friendship with his former co-stars.
Suits season 9 will be back to air this July, per the USA Network. Its spinoff series, Pearson, which stars Gina Torres, will debut after.
