Japan's official GFriend account, @GFRDofficialJP, have previously announced that they will collaborate with Japanese boy group Sonar Pocket. Now, the time has finally come that the K-pop stars and the J-pop group release their collaboration.
GFriend and Sonar Pocket released a video Thursday for the new single "Oh Difficult." The song appears on Sonar Pocket's 32nd single album of the same name, which debuts July 3.
The video shows GFriend members Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji singing and dancing on set with Sonar Pocket’s Ko-dai, Eyeron, and Matty. GFriend and Sonar Pocket create beautiful harmony together.
GFriend released its debut Japanese single album, Memoria (Time for the Moon Night), in October. The group followed up with Sunrise in February and Flower/Beautiful in March.
GFriend garnered international attention in September 2015 when one of their performances went viral. It happened when a video of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji who were performing their new hit back then, “Me Gustas Tu” circulated online.
In the over four-minute-long video, Yuju, who was wearing a white knee protector was seen slipping and falling down on the slippery stage eight times resulting in a twisted finger but the group still maintained their professionalism.
Although GFriend did not have the high-profile backing of a major label or lots of promotions leading up to their debut, they managed to nab as many as 29 trophies in 2016 alone. Their 2nd mini album title song, “Me Gustas Tu” cemented their name in the K-pop industry. The popular song is so catchy, it actually achieved 100 million streams on Gaon chart in 2016 which is a rather ground-breaking record for such a young group at that time.
The girl group was then crowned “Best Korea Act” of 2017. They were internationally recognized around this time when they won the MTV Europe Music Awards’ Best Korea Act which was certainly a triumph for the girls.
Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji’s star just keeps on shining and in 2018, they were awarded the 2018 Global V Live Top 10 thanks to their hard work and also the constant support of the “Buddies.” They were overwhelmed with gratitude and promised their fans that they would not disappoint them as they would produce even better songs in the future.
After nabbing Artist of the Year at 2019 FACT Music Awards, GFriend is giving their fans more reason to be excited after releasing their collaboration with Sonar Pocket.
