The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 flagship smartphone from the South Korean tech giant is easily one of the most highly anticipated handset. The phone's development is well document by fans and notable tech writers alike. Recently, the tech community was shocked when a notable tech insider dropped the news that the Galaxy Note 10 will no longer support microSD.
The microSD slot is one of the staple features of almost all previously released Samsung smartphones. It is one of the ways to expand a phone's storage capacity. Aside from generally supported by almost all smartphone manufacturers, it is also a relatively cheap alternative than purchasing high-end models with huge built-in storage capacity.
This is not the first time that Samsung opted to remove the microSD support on some of its handsets. The company faced huge backlash when it removed the feature from its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 devices. The decision received so much anger and hate that Samsung decided to restore the feature the next year.
Another thing that has fueled anger, especially among Galaxy Note fans, is the fact that the Galaxy S10 model does support the microSD feature. Samsung has yet to comment why it decided to remove the feature on the Galaxy Note, which is hailed as a do-it-all smartphone aimed towards productivity.
The news was first reported by Max Weinbach, a notable tech insider, and writer for XDA Developers. It caused quite an uproar when he first shared the news on social networking site Twitter.
Aside from the microSD issue, Weinbach also shared that the Galaxy Note 10 smartphones will have a headphone jack. While this is not exactly a great way to compensate for the missing microSD card support, it is great to know that the company cares in preserving one of the most ubiquitous features of smartphones.
There is conflicting news with regards to the headphone jack feature. While Weinbach said that it is coming to the Note 10 models, there are also several tech insiders claiming it will not. Weinbach did admit that his source only had the pre-production model of the phones and that he is not entirely sure whether the feature will make its way into the commercial model of the phone which will be released to the public.
Those in the tech community speculates that there will be a great backlash should Samsung decide to ditch these two vital features from its upcoming flagship phones.
