A new report details Apple's plan on launching three OLED iPhone models for next year, which means that the next devices after iPhone 11R will be sporting a more advanced panel and some energy-saving capabilities. But that's not all, as JP Morgan analyst believe that other than three new phones, the Cupertino tech giant is also preparing a fourth iPhone, one which more people will find more affordable. This should increase the market share of the company in price-conscious regions.
There is an expected increase in unit sales according to the analysts. For one, the new iPhone will come with a slew of amazing features, including rear-facing 3D sensing cameras and 5G network support. Conversely, Rosenblatt Securities' analysts don't believe that Apple's 2019 iPhone range will drive up sales, although the reasons for predicting that were not provided.
JP Morgan believes that Apple will sell approximately 195 million units in 2020, up from an expected 180 million sales by the end of 2019. As for the low-cost iPhone, there will be some sacrifices for sure. According to the analysts, some features have to be compromised to bring the cost down heavily, including the lack of OLED screen and support for 5G. It will be around the same size as the iPhone 8, but the cameras or a Face ID feature are still unknown.
An analyst at JP Morgan wrote:
"Our expectations include all three Sep-2020 iPhones (5.4″/6.1″/6.7″ screen sizes) will adopt OLED displays and 5G baseband modems (with support for mmWave frequencies), and at least two of the three models adopting world facing 3D Sensing (Time of Flight) driving industry leading AR/VR capabilities which can be leveraged by custom built applications (including games)."
Previously, reports circulated on the web that Apple has been working on an affordable iPhone, but this was made for the Chinese market. This version of the iPhone comes without Face ID. A similar model could be made for other regions in order to attract more customers to switch to iOS.
The reason for this potential move is that Apple would want to counter the strategy of dominating companies like Xiaomi and Huawei in this region, where they provide users with devices with capable hardware and features, and that too, at a very competitive price.
The three OLED iPhone devices with support for 5G should drive sales for the company by 2020, but we still wish the low-cost version has this feature too. For now, we're waiting on Apple to confirm the report.
