Altered Carbon season 2 on Netflix is currently in the middle of filming. The high concept show is about a futuristic world where humans can change bodies by downloading and uploading their consciousness using advanced technology.

Based on a novel by Richard K. Morgan, the characters can never truly die in this story. However, the lead character of Altered Carbon season 2, Takeshi Kovacs, will be played by a different actor to take over for Joel Kinnaman from season 1.

In July 2018, Marvel Cinematic Universe star and future Captain America, Anthony Mackie, was cast as the new Kovacs. But who else will be joining him for Altered Carbon season 2?

In February 2019, Netflix confirmed in a video announcement that Simone Missick from the Netflix Marvel franchise had joined the show as a new character named Trepp, an expert bounty hunter. The series has also cast Daredevil actress Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, as well as Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Ivan Carrera and James Saito as Tanesada Hideki.

In an interview with Fandom SpotlightStargate actor Michael Shanks shared that he's also in the cast of Altered Carbon season 2. However, he couldn't discuss the extent of his participation in the Netflix series.

But characters from the first season, such as Renée Elise Goldsberry (as Quellcrist Falconer), Dichen Lachman (as Reileen) and Chris Conor (as Poe), are also likely going to pop up in the second season. Though they have been killed off, there are plenty of ways they can return since death isn't a certainty in this futuristic world.

According to Deadline, Altered Carbon season 2 will find Kovacs on the run from Colonel Carrera. On the other hand, Saito, the leader of an organized crime family, will be looking for the lead character as well because of their shared history.

One of them will be tapping on the help of Trepp to locate Kovacs. The rest of the characters will make sure that Kovacs is protected and kept safe from the ones trying to locate him.

Altered Carbon season 2 has a new showrunner in Alison Schapker while former showrunner Laeta Kalogridis has been retained as executive producer.

"Alison is an outstanding storyteller and first-class executive producer and showrunner," the production studio Skydance Television president Marcy Ross said. "We are incredibly proud of the work she's done on the second season of Altered Carbon, and we are beyond thrilled at the opportunity to continue collaborating with her."

Netflix has not yet revealed when the series will drop. Fans speculate that Altered Carbon season 2 could be ready to hit the small screen by early 2020.
