Mindhunter season 2 is gearing up for its return on Netflix. Set for an August premiere, the show about serial killers has a few surprises in store.
The official teaser, which Netflix recently released online, shows that Mindhunter season 2 will tackle the notorious Charles Manson (played by Damon Herriman) and the Manson murders in California. The show will also bring Agents Holden Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (played by Holt McCallany) to Atlanta to investigate the horrific child murders, which has been blamed on the Ku Klux Klan.
Mindhunter season 2's teaser also featured glimpses of what looks like the BTK killer played by Sonny Valicenti. The serial killer known as the Son of Sam, David Berkowitz, is also in the clips.
Apart from the character of Manson, Netflix didn't announce the actors who will be playing these notorious villains. Deadline, however, mentions that Michael Cerveris is in the cast of Mindhunter season and it looks like he is the Son of Sam.
Meanwhile, last season's main serial killer, Ed Kemper (played by Cameron Britton) will be back in Mindhunter season 2. He warns Holden and Bill not to stare at Manson when they see him in person.
Britton won't reveal the extent of his appearance in the upcoming installment. But based on his interview with Inverse, the character could have a bigger role in Mindhunter season 2 than the first season.
"Kemper is incredibly comfortable in his skin," the actor said. "He's a much more standard villain. Most villains know exactly who they are and what they want; it's the heroes who are lost."
Creator and executive David Fincher said that Mindhunter season 2 would take a step further as serial killers become cultural figures in America during this time. From being holed up in the basement in the first season, Holden and Bill would now take the center stage as their job matters more than ever in solving these crimes.
Mindhunter season 2 also stars Anna Torv, Albert Jones, Stacey Roca, Joe Tuttle, Sierra McClain, and Lauren Glazier. Aside from Fincher, Andrew Dominik and Carl Franklin directed episodes of this installment. Charlize Theron, Joshua Donen, Cean Chaffin, Beth Kono, and Courtnay Miles serve as producers.
Netflix will release nine episodes of Mindhunter season 2 at midnight on Aug. 16. The first season, with 10 episodes, remains streaming on the platform.
