Most NBA stars are trying to get in shape, and Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons is one of them. Being the third heaviest cager in the league today, it comes to no surprise that the 25-year-old center is trying to slim down through dieting. Selecting the right food intake is normally the way, but it appears he is adapting something rare - drinking one beer a day.

At first, some would think that Drummond's regimen is something wild. But when the Pistons center explained why, it all somehow made sense. He revealed that since he is cutting down red meat intake, he needs to find an alternative to make up for the calories lost. And that came in the form of beer where he drinks either a Miller Lite or a Corona daily, the Detroit Free Press said.

It will be interesting to see if everything turns out well for Drummond, who is obviously trying to lose some pounds. The heaviest right now is Bob Marjanovic of the Philadelphia 76ers followed by Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans. With a potentially leaner Drummond, the eventual benefactor will undoubtedly be the Pistons.

But for now, the big story about Drummond outside the beer-a-day diet is that he declined an invite from USA Basketball. He is one of multiple NBA stars who have opted to pass on representing the country once more at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, preferring to focus on helping his team prepare for the 2019-20 NBA season. If one looks at it, the whole diet thing seems tied up to his goal of boosting the Pistons chances next season.

Aside from that, there is Drummond's future to think about. According to Spotrac.com, he is entering the final year of his $127 million deal that started back in 2017. Part of the deal allows him to exercise his player option and shun the remaining $28.7 million for the 2020-21 NBA season. If so, he would become another target by other NBA teams if he performs well for the coming NBA wars.

There is no question that Drummond is one of the many talented big men who can be an asset to any NBA team. In the 2019-20 NBA season, he averaged 17.3 points and 15.6 rebounds in 79 games. Those are automatic double-double numbers from someone like him - figures that could either go up (or down), depending on his playing shape for the Pistons this coming season.
