A reunion is happening on Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7. Andy Samberg (as Jake Peralta) should be thrilled to welcome special guest star Vanessa Bayer on the set of the NBC series.
According to TV Line, the network has confirmed that Bayer will be in an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 after Samberg announced on his social media that his friend was going to be on the show. NBC, however, did not give out details to Bayer's casting, but it was pretty clear from Samberg's post that she will also be playing a cop.
Samberg and Bayer worked together for two seasons of Saturday Night Live (SNL). The actor, however, left the sketch comedy series in 2012 to star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Bayer, on the other hand, left SNL in 2017.
It's unclear which episode Bayer will be on Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7. Viewers will also have to wait a little longer to find out since NBC has scheduled the premiere of the new episodes during the midseason.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 started filming sometime in late July. The cast and crew will be working on 13 episodes this season, as opposed to the usual 22-episode order.
The network scooped the show for season 6 after FOX canceled it in 2018 due to poor ratings. According to Deadline, the gamble paid off because Brooklyn Nine-Nine earned its best rating in two years in its new NBC home.
"The change in networks makes the series feel like a new show," series creator Michael Schur said, via Forbes. "We're getting all the publicity that a new show gets, so that's a real boost for us."
Meanwhile, amid the excitement and joy of returning to the set of Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7, the cast paid tribute to a former cast member who died recently. The Corgi known as Cheddar on the series died last July. The dog Stewart was the pet of Captain Holt (played by Andre Braugher).
According to executive producer Luke Del Tredici, Cheddar will likely be played by Stewart's sister who has just started her training as a performer. Though three other Corgis played Cheddar in the show's entire run, it was Stewart who got the most work and was "successful" on screen.
Also gone on Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 is Chelsea Perretti (Gina) who has scaled down her appearance in the last season. The actress said that the decision to leave the comedy series was not an easy one, but it seemed like the time is right.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 will return on NBC in the midseason.
