CBS has renewed MacGyver season 4 last May and fans have been expecting to see the show back on the air for Fall TV 2019. However, that time has finally arrived, and yet the series is currently not on the schedule. Expectedly, upset fans have been asking why CBS moved MacGyver season 4 for the midseason.
The network did some major shakeup in its Fall TV 2019 schedule when it bumped MacGyver season 4 on its usual time slot. For the last three years, the drama series headed by Lucas Till (as Angus MacGyver) always premiered in September, but it won't be the case this time around.
CBS has apparently put MacGyver season 4 in the midseason schedule, potentially for a January 2020 release, alongside the final shortened season of Criminal Minds. In the meantime, Hawaii Five-0 season 10 has taken over MacGyver's old time slot while squeezing the reboot of Magnum P.I. season 2 in between Five-O and Blue Bloods season 10.
According to Pop Culture, CBS has not fully explained MacGyver season 4's move, but the show has been going through a lot of changes since the departure of actor George Eads (as Jack Dalton). In November 2018, Eads confirmed that he would be out of the series by February the following year due to a personal reason, but he could still be open guest starring on the show in the future.
Eads' departure paved the way for the introduction of a new character in Desi Nguyen, played by Levy Tran. The actress was upped to series regular for MacGyver season 4. In renewing the series, CBS also announced that showrunner Terry Matalas would be replaced by Craig O'Neill alongside executive producer and creator Peter Lenkov.
The wait for MacGyver season 4's return, however, could be worth it because the revamped drama is featuring two new exciting characters. First, Peter Weller is returning to the show as the supervillain. He was briefly introduced in the finale of season 3.
Weller's character has been described as similar to MacGyver in terms of mind and skills. Only, he's got an evil agenda and uses his ability for "nefarious purposes."
The second new actor joining the series is Henry Ian Cusick as Russ, who will be working side by side with Till's character. Russ is described as an Oxford-educated former military man. He is also quite wealthy and is great at lie detection.
CBS will likely have new announcements about MacGyver season 4's return during the holidays.
