Dinner time is very important as it is the time that most, if not all, of the family members are home. Eating supper together also serves as a nice family bonding.

However, not all people are very particular with dinner time that they end up arriving late and would let everyone else wait. This was the problem that the royal family was facing with the Queen Mother, according to the former royal chef.

“Dinner was at 8:30 pm in Balmoral when Her Majesty the Queen Mother was in attendance,” Darren McGrady revealed in an interview. “They used to tell her that dinner was at 8:15, and she’d be the last one down. They told everyone else 8:30 because they knew she’d be late.”

This is not the only shocking revelation that the former royal chef spilled. He also shared that nobody knew Princess Diana was suffering from an eating disorder because she was seen eating around people.

Her secret? The Princess of Wales asked McGrady to make her fat-free versions of dishes that were being served. "One day she said to me, 'Darren I want you to take care of all the fats, and I'll take care of the carbs at the gym.’… When she was at Buckingham Palace, her bulimia was a hidden thing,” he said. McGrady added that the Princess of Wales didn’t eat red meat and would only eat lamb when she as entertaining guests.

Unlike their mother, the former royal chef revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry loved fast food. But, instead of forcing them to eat healthy and fat-free food like her, Princess Diana allowed her sons to enjoy whatever food they want. "I remember the Princess came into the kitchen one day and said, 'Cancel lunch for the boys I'm taking them out, we're going to McDonald’s,” he said.

Back to the Queen Mother, the 2019 documentary “Secrets of the Royal” revealed that she had an outrageous spending habit. Although critics had slammed Meghan Markle for her spending, hers was reportedly nothing compared to Queen Elizabeth’s mother.

Royal correspondent Ingrid Seward shared that price was never an issue to the Queen Mother and she would buy anything that suits her great style. She enjoyed looking good for the public and her guests. So, the Queen Mother wanted to look her best all the time. As a result of her expensive and constant shopping sprees, she spent about $2.6 million a year.
