This week's episode of The Good Place season 4 had Chidi (played by William Jackson Harper) getting closer to figuring out the truth of where they are. Episode 3, which aired on Thursday, Oct. 10, was supposed to be about "chillaxing," but Chidi was bothered by something he couldn't pinpoint.
In a scene with Eleanor (played by Kristen Bell) and Michael (played by Ted Danson), Chidi opened up and told them that he's in some kind of moral dilemma. He said he feels like he's being punished, and the Universe is like trying to get back at him. However, he doesn't know what he has done wrong.
He thinks he's in the good place yet he still feels miserable. Eleanor, quite worried about where this might lead to, advises Chidi in The Good Place season 4 episode 3 to spend the rest of the day going on a picnic and playing frisbee golf. This should take his mind off what has been bothering him.
Eleanor realized one glaring issue about what's happening. They will never really know a side to Chidi that is not stressed or bothered by issues. So, they bring out Jason (played by Manny Jacinto) to pinch-hit and work with Chidi so that he's back to his element a hundred percent.
By the end of The Good Place season 4 episode 3, Chidi was back into his old self to deliver his ethics class. It also gave Jason the opportunity to be in his element from the first season as the Florida dude.
The B-side to The Good Place season 4 episode 3 had Tahani (played by Jameela Jamil) and John (played by Brandon Scott Jones) bringing out their best self. Despite their antagonism towards each other, the two eventually softened their stance. They are not the best of friends yet, but they are evolving.
Meanwhile, The Good Place season 4 episode 4, which will air on Oct. 17, will bring an unexpected visitor, according to the episode synopsis. This installment has been titled "Tinker, Tailor, Demon, Spy."
The Good Place season 4 airs at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. This will be the final season with 13 episodes.
Bell said, in an interview with CNN, that they want to end The Good Place season 4 under their terms so that they could have a "most organic and satisfying conclusion" to the series. They want to tell the story with an ending it truly deserves.
