Sarah Ferguson was the ex-wife of Queen Elizabeth’s second son Prince Andrew. She became a part of the royal family in 1986, four years after Prince William was born.
Since Fergie was already a member of the royal family when Prince William was growing up, many expect that they had a good relationship. However, Sarah Ferguson revealed that the Duke of Cambridge did something that made her feel “worthless.”
In 1996, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson ended their marriage and finalized their divorce. Seeing her as not a part of the royal family anymore, most members turned their backs on her.
Fergie was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s very highly-anticipated wedding in 2011. Her and Prince Andrew’s daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, on the other hand, were guests to the nuptials.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2011, Sarah Ferguson shared that it was a difficult feeling that she wasn’t invited because she wanted to be there with her daughters. “And it was also hard because the last bride up that aisle was me,” she said.
Sarah Ferguson then added that "I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and that [it] was quite right they didn't invite me.” However, Fergie noted that she wasn’t bitter about being snubbed and even said that Princess Diana would’ve been proud of Prince William. Fergie also complimented Kate Middleton’s beauty. "I'm here to say how proud she would have been, and Kate looked utterly beautiful,” she said.
In 2018, Prince William’s younger brother Prince Harry tied the knot with Meghan Markle. This time, Sarah Ferguson was invited. However, her invitation was limited to the wedding ceremony, and she did not receive an invitation to the evening reception at Frogmore House.
“Numbers are limited to the evening party,” a Daily Mail source said. “She is not a member of the Royal Family anymore, and Prince Charles simply doesn’t have time for her. He just can’t see why she is still such a big part of his brother’s life.”
It was previously believed that Prince Charles was the one who didn’t invite Sarah Ferguson to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. He also may have tried to talk to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to not invite her to their wedding, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to add her to the guest list.
