Meghan Markle, reportedly, wanted to host a drink reception with the British media who joined her and Prince Harry in their tour of South Africa. The idea, however, was shot down by her own husband but it's unclear why.

In the podcast show Pod Save the Queen with Ann Gripper, regular guest Richard Palmer of the Daily Express said that the press was supposed to have drinks with the Sussex royals to get to know the couple off the record and behind the scenes. Palmer said that since Meghan hasn't had much interaction with the press as the newest member of the royal family, this was supposed to be a good chance to break the ice.

However, Prince Harry said no to his wife's plan. Allegedly, the Duke of Sussex did not have a happy demeanor during their South African tour unlike his wife who enjoyed their time. The mood was, reportedly, a vibe killer for whatever reason and Palmer, who wasn't actually part of the entourage, was told by the people who were there that it was "dripping with poison."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been trying to distance themselves from the press after filing three different lawsuits against Mail on SundayMirror and The Sun.  Palmer, however, believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex must still maintain a good relationship with the media because they will need their help to connect with the people.

Palmer went on to say that, although the Sussex royals have Instagram to announce their causes and advocacy, many royal watchers would still want to hear news about their family from traditional media. Hence, their relationship with the press is vital to their work as royals and this is still what the senior members of the royal family believe in.

Meanwhile, even President Donald Trump has an opinion about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's battle with the media. Speaking in a radio interview, the U.S. president said that while she doesn't know the duchess, he thinks he is taking things personally with the negative reports.

Trump also said that he understands why Meghan would be upset but, as someone in the spotlight, the president advised that she has to be "a little bit different." He also said that Prince Harry is a "great young man" when he met him personally during his state visit last in the U.K. last June.
