Royal expert Juliet Rieden claims that Queen Elizabeth does not want Prince Harry and Meghan to relocate and renounce their royal titles so they can live in peace away from the media spotlight. Rieden says that they Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a huge role as they are "changing the face" of the royal family, which helps widen their audience and global reach.
It won't be good for The Firm if Prince Harry and Meghan left the royal family and move away from the U.K since the Sussex royals are helping them remain relevant and influential. Rieden said that Prince Harry and Meghan have "removed the boundaries for who is interested in the Royal Family."
The expert also said that the spotlight will always be there even if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decide to live as private citizens instead of working royals. Prince Harry and Meghan are stuck in their situation and must instead find a way to make this popularity and interest in their lives work for them.
If Prince Harry and Meghan were to renounce their royal life, they would have to move out of Frogmore Cottage and lose the privileges that come with their status, including their security detail. They could receive an allowance from the royal family but it will not be as substantial as what they are currently enjoying as working royals.
A few years back, Prince Harry reportedly wanted to renounce his royal title and live somewhere in peace and quiet, said royal biographer Penny Juror. The one person who convinced him to stay and pursue his royal duties was Queen Elizabeth. The Queen apparently forgave Prince Harry for even considering leaving the family.
Prince Harry said, in a 2015 interview, that he wanted to "give something back" after serving the military. At that time, settling down was one of his options but he said that it's something that cannot be forced. Since then, he has turned his life around from the party boy in his bachelor days to a working royal with a wife to support him and a son to raise.
