Prince William was a former air ambulance pilot, so it is safe to say that he has a soft spot for them as he knows their trials and difficulties firsthand. With that said, the Duke of Cambridge had been a patron of the charity’s 30 Years Saving Lives campaign.
During the gala dinner honoring the 30th anniversary of London’s Air Ambulance Charity, Prince William attended the event along with other famous people such as Eric Clapton and ex-Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone. The meaningful affair was held at the Rosewood London hotel and hosted TV presenter Natalie Pinkham. Lord and Lady Archer presented the charity auction.
Prince William then took the opportunity to meet with the attendees and talked to them. The Duke of Cambridge was photographed having a conversation with doctors, paramedics, and pilots.
“Having served as an air ambulance pilot myself, I am in no doubt about the crucial lifeline that air ambulances provide all over the UK. London has some of the most difficult airspace in the world in which to offer an air ambulance service,” Prince William said. “The city is congested, and landing spaces in short supply. I landed on the London Air Ambulance helipad on multiple occasions during my job. I can tell you that it is an essential part of the medical chain in London, and speeds up the process of patients getting to care.”
The air ambulance had helped a lot of people and treated 40,000 patients. The service was created in 1989 with the help of Lord Stevens. He pledged $5million for the operation and persuaded the then prime minister Margaret Thatcher to contribute to the service.
Chief executive of London’s Air Ambulance Jonathan Jenkins said: “If it wasn’t for the vision of Lord Stevens and the Daily Express in the late 1980s, London’s Air Ambulance Charity would not be where we are today, celebrating 30 years of saving lives. As Lord Stevens had said, ‘Without this friendship, this project quite literally might never have got off the ground.’”
Meanwhile, many believe that Prince William is a very worthy future king of England. In fact, a lot of fans see Princess Diana in him. The Princess of Wales was loved by many, giving her the title of “People’s Princess.”
Despite being born royal, the public has always felt that they can approach Prince William without feeling intimidated, just like what Princess Diana made the people feel when she was still alive.
