Among the Cambridge royals, it is usually Kate Middleton and not Prince William who makes the headlines for style or fashion. But on Wednesday, the Duke of Cambridge surprised onlookers at a celebrity gala for his daring outfit -- a green velvet suit jacket.
According to Daily Express, Prince William changed up his usual wardrobe with the velvet outfit in keeping with the event's urban glamour theme. His wife, however, was not at the event to join him. Instead, it was his cousin Princess Beatrice who mingled with the guests at the gala, which included Rita Ora, the members of the U.K. band Duran Duran, singer Ellie Goulding and presenter Claudia Winkleman.
Jahangir Azam, who supplies the royals with their evening slippers, remarked that Prince William's velvet jacket brought a modern flair to the royal's style. He said that it's good to see Prince William showing versatility for his choices of evening wear while still maintaining an air of elegance.
The Duke of Cambridge paired his sleek jacket with a black pants and Azam's cashmere evening sleepers, Arthur Sleep. These are handcrafted and made-to-order, which Prince William reportedly loved wearing for formal events since 2015.
Meanwhile, Prince William spoke to the crowd to congratulate the staff of Centrepoint for their charitable work in the last 50 years. The organization, which was established in the 1960s, helps homeless individuals in the ages of 16 to 25.
The second in line to the throne, however, lamented that it's still upsetting to think that the problem of homelessness is still present in 2019. Nevertheless, he's grateful that there's a Centrepoint team who provides individual care and support for those in need.
After the celebrity gala, Prince William was seen with Kate for another royal event. While getting into the car, however, Kate nearly lost her balance because she was carrying a large bouquet of flowers.
Ever the gentleman that he is, Prince William saved his wife from an embarrassing fall by reaching out to her. The Duchess of Cambridge was able to steady herself, glanced at her husband and exchanged knowing laughs.
Prince William and Kate also had some rare moments at the said event, where they nonchalantly touched each other. The duke was seen placing his hand on his wife's back or reaching out to Kate to touch her arm and she mirrored the same gesture as they appear to be in tune with each other.
