Camilla Parker-Bowles joins her husband, Prince Charles, in New Zealand as part of their royal tour. As the Duchess of Cornwall meets the people in the country, she receives praises, saying she will be a "great Queen" someday. But, will she be officially a Queen when the right time comes?
The 72-year-old member of the royal family received a shower of compliments during a walkabout in Auckland's Harbour. Here, she shook hands with a bunch of royal fans and even exchanged a few words with them as they waited in the windy weather.
With her efforts, Camilla Parker-Bowles received a lot of complements, per Express. She was even told she was so beautiful. Some even expressed their concern, asking her if she was feeling better after suffering from a chest infection, which forced her to cancel two Remembrance Day events.
What could be the most heartwarming message Camilla Parker-Bowles received at the time? It was when others said that she would be "a great Queen" someday. But, will she be a queen when Prince Charles ascends the throne?
Camilla Parker-Bowles will become Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes the King. She has been formally known as Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall ever since she got married to the Prince of Wales in 2005.
Camilla Parker-Bowles has the right to take the name of Princess of Wales, but she never used it because it was associated with the late Princess Diana, Prince Charles' former wife. The Week reported that she is set to have the title of princess consort when her husband takes the throne, according to the official line from Clarence House.
However, the Oxford University professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis said that Camilla Parker-Bowles should be queen under the Treason Act 1351 and as the sovereign's wife in the section two of the Regency Act 1937. The wives of the male royal family member usually get the equivalent title of their spouse when they are already married.
So, when Prince Charles became a duke, Camilla Parker-Bowles carried the name of a duchess. When he becomes a king, she will become a queen consort.
"The wife of a head of state is not a joint head of state, however. The sovereign reigns on his or her own," Pavlos Eleftheriadis told The Daily Express. "In that sense, Camilla will be a 'Queen' in the limited legal sense of being the wife of the sovereign."
It only means that Camilla Parker-Bowles will be the queen in the legal and symbolic sense. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that she will have the royal title.
